Most bettors place individual bets without a system. They pick a match, back a team, and hope for the best. But the difference between recreational betting and profitable betting is strategy — a repeatable, rules-based approach that removes emotion and lets data drive decisions. That is exactly what CalibrSports Strategies are designed to do.

What Is a Betting Strategy?

A betting strategy is a predefined set of rules that determines which bets to place, in which markets, and at what stake. Instead of manually scanning matches and making gut-feel decisions, you follow a strategy that has been backtested, tracked, and optimised over time.

On CalibrSports, every strategy is powered by our ML prediction engine and reviewed by the AI Advisor. The strategy applies filters on top of our predictions — for example, only backing home favourites above a certain probability threshold in specific leagues, or only taking Asian Handicap bets where the model detects a minimum edge.

House Strategies

Strategies marked with the HOUSE badge are built and maintained by the CalibrSports team. These are our flagship strategies — the ones we track publicly and report on our Track Record page. House strategies are not theoretical. Every bet they generate is timestamped, settled, and included in our published results.

Each House strategy targets a specific edge in the market:

  • Market-specific strategies focus on a single betting market like 1X2, Over/Under, or Asian Handicap. They exploit the model's strengths in that particular market.
  • League-specific strategies focus on leagues where our model has the strongest calibration — for example, the Premier League where we have the deepest historical data.
  • Composite strategies combine multiple markets and leagues with specific filters for edge, probability, and odds ranges.

How to Read a Strategy Card

When you browse the Strategies page, each card shows key metrics:

  • ROI: The return on investment over the last 30 days using compound Kelly methodology. A +15% ROI means that if you started with £1,000 and followed every pick, your bankroll would be £1,150.
  • Win Rate: The percentage of settled bets that won. A healthy win rate depends on the market — 1X2 strategies might target 55-65%, while Correct Score strategies might only need 15-20% because the odds are much higher.
  • Total Bets: How many bets the strategy has generated in the tracking period. More bets means more statistical significance.
  • Markets: Which betting markets the strategy covers (1X2, O/U, BTTS, AH, etc.).

The Equity Curve

Every strategy page includes an equity curve — a chart showing how a hypothetical bankroll would have grown (or shrunk) over time following the strategy. This is the most important visual because it shows not just the end result but the journey. A strategy with +20% ROI but a 40% drawdown along the way is very different from one with +15% ROI and smooth, steady growth.

The equity curve uses compound Kelly staking, meaning bet sizes scale with the bankroll. When the bankroll grows, bets grow proportionally — and vice versa. This is how real-world strategy execution works, and why we report compound ROI rather than flat-unit returns.

Choosing the Right Strategy

There is no single "best" strategy. The right choice depends on your goals and risk tolerance:

  • Conservative: Look for strategies with steady equity curves, lower volatility, and markets like Double Chance or Draw No Bet that have higher hit rates.
  • Balanced: 1X2 and Over/Under strategies offer a good mix of frequency and edge. Most bettors start here.
  • Aggressive: Asian Handicap and Correct Score strategies can deliver higher ROI but with more variance. These work best with a larger bankroll that can absorb losing streaks.

You can also follow multiple strategies simultaneously to diversify your exposure — the same principle behind investment portfolios. If one strategy has a cold week, another might be running hot.

Strategy vs Individual Picks

You might wonder: why follow a strategy instead of just cherry-picking individual bets from Hot Picks? The answer is discipline. Cherry-picking introduces the exact biases that strategies are designed to eliminate — you skip the bets that feel risky, double down on the ones that feel safe, and end up with a sample that does not reflect the true edge.

A strategy takes every qualifying bet, good days and bad, which is what allows the mathematical edge to compound over hundreds of bets. The equity curve does not lie.
