Over/Under Goals
Definition
A market on the total number of goals scored by both teams in a match. The most common line is 2.5 goals. Over 2.5 wins if 3 or more goals are scored; Under 2.5 wins if 2 or fewer goals are scored. Other common lines are 1.5 and 3.5.
Example
Borussia Dortmund vs RB Leipzig — Dortmund average 2.1 expected goals per home game; Leipzig average 1.4 expected against. Our goals model estimates a combined expected goals total of 3.2, giving Over 2.5 a probability of approximately 61%.
At bookmaker odds of 1.75 (implied 57.1%), the edge is +3.9% — above our minimum threshold for the Bundesliga.
How CalibrSports Predicts This
Our goals model estimates expected goals for each team using 162 pre-match features. We then compute the probability of every exact scoreline and aggregate them into Over/Under probabilities for 1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 lines. We bet the line where our edge exceeds the per-league minimum threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if exactly 2.5 goals are scored?
That is impossible — you cannot score half a goal. The 0.5 in the line ensures there is always a winner. 2 goals = Under 2.5 wins; 3 goals = Over 2.5 wins.
Why does CalibrSports focus on the 2.5 line?
The 2.5 line has the most liquidity and tightest bookmaker margins. Our model's estimates are most reliable at this midpoint because the probability curve is steepest around the European average of 2.6 goals per game.
Do own goals count?
Yes. Any goal that crosses the line counts toward the total, including own goals.
